Several dozen people answered the call of the Declic Community and gathered on Wednesday in front of the Victoria Palace of Government in an anti-poverty protest, demanding the rise of the national minimum wage, told Agerpres.
The protesters carried placards calling for salaries that would not push employees to the edge of poverty and chanted slogans such as "Social justice", "Decent living", "No to poverty" or "We want a decent minimum wage".
"We are asking the government to comply with the European directive on decent minimum wages. If the European directive were applied immediately, the minimum wage should rise to 3,275 RON net, the updated value of the minimum expenditure basket for a decent living," it is stated on the Declic page, where a petition addressed to President Klaus Iohannis, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, Labor Minister Marius Budai and Social Democrat leader Marcel Ciolacu is posted.
The petition aims to collect 100,000 signatures and by Wednesday, approximately 64,000 people had joined the initiative.
"We, the signatories of this petition, are calling on you to side with us and support the European law for decent minimum wages. This directive is necessary to spur the governments of the member states into identifying solutions and national policies for wages that don't push employees to the edge of poverty," reads the petition.
