Defense Minister Ionut Mosteanu and Economy Minister Radu Miruta visited on Friday the Bucharest Mechanical Plant, where Piranha 5 armored personnel carriers are produced.
The two officials discussed directly with the teams involved in the manufacturing process and with military representatives about how this program can be continued and improved.
"The first 227 carriers are close to being delivered - including the specialized medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), CBRN and search/rescue versions. Piranha 5 is one of the most modern vehicles in the European armies' equipment. Today's discussions focused on continuing the procurement program, so that the Romanian defense industry remains active and delivers equipment to NATO standards. The Romanian army needs modern equipment, produced here, at home. The modernization of our army goes hand in hand with the development of the national industry. We have the capacity, we have the partners, and through collaboration we can offer the Romanian military personnel what they deserve: Romania-made state-of-the-art equipment," the Defense minister wrote on Facebook.
