National Minorities Day is a day when we can express our appreciation for the ethnic diversity and cultural richness, fundamental elements of the Romanian culture, Deputy Prime Minister Ana Birchall said on Tuesday.
"18 December has a special significance for us, being the date on which the National Minorities Day has been celebrated since 1998 - a day when we can express our appreciation for the ethnic diversity and cultural richness, the profound, fundamental elements of the Romanian culture. Observing all rights and freedoms of citizens is a prerequisite for any democracy, and in the context of threats such as xenophobia, chauvinism or acts of discrimination becoming increasingly more present around us, it is our duty to promote tolerance, mutual respect and dialogue between cultures. Many happy returns to all minorities in Romania!", Ana Birchall wrote on Facebook.
