Disciplinary investigations to look into travel show fiasco

romania new york

Minister of Entrepreneurship and Tourism Constantin-Daniel Cadariu has announced disciplinary investigations at the Tourism Directorate General and suspended the participation in international trade fairs of persons appointed by the ministry who were part of a delegation in charge with Romania's controversial promotion at a New York travel show.

According to a press statement released by the Tourism Ministry on Tuesday, Romania's economic attachés in the US will also be called before the disciplinary board, according to agerpres.ro.

Regarding the activity of the staff of the Consulate General of Romania in New York, Cadariu asked the Foreign Ministry in writing for a professional conduct analysis of the people involved, considering that they did not report the findings at the Romanian stand and chose to promote a photo that would harm the national image of the country.

"Participation in international travel shows with a country stand will be rethought and taken up by the National Tourist Brand Council (CBTN) and the Tourism Advisory Council (CCT)," the statement says.

Ministry officials say that actions to promote Romania as a destination on foreign markets will be resumed only on the basis of the concepts approved by CBTN and CCT, and until then all participation in international trade fairs will be suspended.

The decision follows discussions at a meeting on Tuesday, April 19 of Cadariu and members of the public and private sectors appointed to the two advisory bodies.
