Dismissed Economy, Energy and Business Environment Minister Virgil Popescu has met in Brussels on Monday with European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager, to talk about the state aids granted to Complexul Energetic Oltenia (Oltenia Energy Complex) (CEO), Complexul Energetic Hunedoara (Hunedoara Energy Complex) (CEH) and the National Company of Uranium.

"Today's visit to Brussels is very important. This morning, I had a meeting with Mrs. Margrethe Vestager - Executive Vice President and Competition Commissioner. I also have requested support for the National Company of Uranium, for the CEH and the CEO. The prospects for the future are very good and I want to thank the European partners for the support granted and for future support," Popescu wrote on his Facebook page.

According to him, the talks agenda included topics regarding the fund for the fair transition and compliance with the competition rules, as well as finding some common solutions to ensure security of energy supply, at the same time, ensuring the transition toward an ecological economy.

"The digital [area] was also included on the agenda," the Minister added.

Romania's Government approved, on Tuesday's meeting [4 February 2020], the Emergency Ordinance (OUG) through which Complexul Energetic Oltenia receives 1.2 billion lei for acquiring carbon dioxide certificates for 2019, according to the Energy Ministry release.
