The Minister of National Defence, Liviu-Ionut Mosteanu, together with other officials and a number of ambassadors, is taking part on Thursday in Distinguished Visitors Day at the Dacian Fall 2025 (DAFA 2025) exercise, held at the Cincu Training Area in Brasov County.
The activities include live-fire demonstration exercises, during which allied forces will conduct a combined land and air operation designed to showcase their high level of interoperability and integration.
The event brings together troops from ten Allied nations - Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain and the United States.
Over 5,000 troops and 1,200 pieces of equipment from ten NATO member states - Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Spain - are taking part in the multinational exercise Dacian Fall 2025 (DAFA 25), conducted across Romania and Bulgaria and planned by NATO's Headquarters Multinational Division South-East (HQ MND-SE) based in Bucharest.
The exercise began on 20 October and has been taking place simultaneously across several training ranges in Cincu, Smardan, Capu Midia, Babadag, Bogata, Alba Iulia, Hanu Conachi, Giarmata, Cartisoara (Romania) and Novo Selo (Bulgaria).
According to the Ministry of National Defence, the main objective of DAFA 25 is the operational integration of HQ MND-SE's subordinate and affiliated structures, marking the final phase in elevating the NATO Battle Groups in Romania and Bulgaria to brigade level.
As part of the exercise, 2,400 French troops from the 7th Armoured Brigade have been deployed to Romania to train alongside the host nation and other allies.
In parallel, in Bulgaria, the NATO Battle Group led by Italy has been conducting related exercises integrated into DAFA 25.
Romania is represented by the 282nd Armoured Brigade "Union of the Principalities" and units under the Multinational Brigade South-East Command, along with elements of the land, air, naval and cyber forces.
"NATO exercises, including DAFA 25, are defensive in nature and are carried out in full compliance with Romania's international commitments," MApN stated.
Headquarters Multinational Division South-East (HQ MND-SE) was established on 1 September 2015 under a decision of the Romanian Parliament and is tasked with coordinating collective defence operations on NATO's south-eastern flank, particularly in Romania and Bulgaria.
"The Forward Land Forces Battle Group - FLF BG in Romania was established in 2022, with parliamentary approval, as a central element of NATO's deterrence and defence posture in the context of the conflict in Ukraine.
"The group includes approximately 1,700 troops from France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Spain and represents the Alliance's firm commitment to the security of the eastern flank and the Black Sea region," the MApN added.
