Senior emergency management official Raed Arafat said on Thursday that 90% of people who are dying in intensive care units in Romania are unvaccinated against COVID-19.
He told a news conference that in the last 24 hours a significant number of people showed up at intensive care units.
"We will see in the next few days what the trend will be (...) Vulnerable people, even if it is the Omicron variant, it may have an impact on them and they may end up in intensive care. Going back to national and world statistics, they show that unvaccinated people are the most vulnerable to ending up in intensive care, and mortality is about 90% in unvaccinated people who are in intensive care. In other words, 90% of those who are dying in intensive care are unvaccinated people, and 10% are vaccinated people, most of them with comorbidities," he said.
According to him, there is also an increase in the number of patients showing up at emergency departments.
"And here we are beginning to see an increase in the number of patients going to such units; given the creation of assessment centres, it is important that for non-critical cases patients use such centres and leave the emergency departments for patients with respiratory problems and problems that really require advanced investigations and advanced medical procedures," Arafat said, Agerpres informs.
