The Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, who is currently paying an official visit to the Republic of Korea, alongside Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, discussed cooperation in developing the Romanian nuclear programme and building of Units 3 and 4 at Cernavoda, but also in relation to the SMRs (small modular reactors) project, according to a post on his Facebook page.

"As part of the delegation led by Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca and the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, I am these days paying an official visit to the Republic of Korea. Today I had a working meeting with the representatives of K-EXIM Bank, which was also attended by George Agafitei, state counselor, and Cosmin Ghita, head of SN Nuclearelectrica SA [national electricity company - editor's note]. We discussed cooperation in developing Romania's nuclear programme and building of Units 3 and 4 at Cernavoda, but also in relation to the SMRs project. I also invited my dialogue partners from South Korea to get involved in the project of upgrading Unit 1 from Cernavoda and the detritus installation, where the technology developed at ICSI Ramnicu Valcea will be used," the Energy Minister wrote.

He stated that he received positive signals in relation to his dialogue partners' will to get involved in these important investments.

"I conveyed that through cooperation we will succeed in strengthening the bilateral relations between the two states," Popescu also noted.

The Minister of Energy is currently paying an official visit to the Republic of Korea, alongside the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, the Minister of Education, Ligia Deca, the Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitization, Sebastian Burduja, the Minister of Economy, Florin Spataru, the Minister of National Defence, Anghel Tilvar, and other parliamentary colleagues.
