Minister of Energy Bogdan Ivan said in Bistrita on Saturday that the upcoming budget revision will provide 950 million lei for the vulnerable consumer protection scheme, funds that will cover co-payments on electricity bills until the end of March next year.
An additional 90 million lei will be directed to Posta Romana (Romanian Post) for the production and distribution of vouchers worth 50 lei, said Agerpres.
"The funds will come through the budget revision. We're talking about a total of 950 million lei until 31 March 2026, and around another 90 million lei for Romanian Post, to produce the cards, distribute them, and ensure that every eligible beneficiary in Romania receives the vouchers directly at home," said Bogdan Ivan.
The platform where vulnerable consumers can register will be ready by the end of July, the minister assured.
"Starting Wednesday, when we had the first meeting with the Special Telecommunications Service (STS) and the Ministry of Labour, work began on a new module for the old platform used by the Ministry of European Funds, which managed energy cards two and a half years ago. That module will be ready in four weeks, which means by the end of July. Electricity bills for July will be issued starting 6 August, and people will have at least two weeks to register on the platform," Ivan explained.
Registration for the scheme can be done directly by the beneficiaries, at any post office, or with help from municipal social protection staff. Based on the personal data entered, automated eligibility checks will be performed via ANAF (the tax authority) and AJPIS (the county agency for social payments and inspection)
Approximately 2.1 million households in Romania are considered potentially vulnerable, following the end of the electricity price cap.
