A Village Museum, having amassed hundreds of objects, some almost 300 years old was opened, with European funds, in Vizantea Livezile commune, eastern Vrancea County, out of the need to preserve and transmit to new generations the values and traditions of the village of old.

The museum is located on the site of the former CAP (former socialist agricultural production cooperative), in the immediate vicinity of the former Vizantea monastery, a class A historical monument.

"Currently, we have hundreds of pieces in the museum, some of them almost 300 years old," declared for AGERPRES, the mayor of Vizantea Livezile commune, Dragos Ciobotaru, Agerpres informs.

The building also houses the sculpture workshop of Florin Cristea, one of the most important contemporary sculptors in the country, who is also the curator of the museum. An economist by profession, Florin Cristea is passionate about archaeology, history and sculpture, so for him, every object in the museum has its own story.

"(...) we seek, as much as possible, to save as many objects as possible, to save the collective memory of this community (...) a grindstone for crushing the grains, popular costumes from the beginning of the 20th century (...) pots made form gourds, water or wine vessels, dowry boxes waiting to be refurbished and saved (...) We have items from the First and Second World Wars, we have clothing items from the beginning of the last century," said Florin Cristea.

And because Vizantea Livezi wants to regain its status as a national spa resort, the Village Museum in the locality wants to be one of the points of cultural attraction for those who will come to treatment here, along with about ten archaeological sites dating back to the Neolithic, identified during an archaeological study for the zonal urban plan.
