The maternal grandparents of the child Mathias Rotundu, who live in Vaslui County, were the first to express their readiness to take care of him, and the National Authority for the Rights of the Child and Adoption started the evaluation procedures in this respect, the Minister of Family, Youth and Equal Opportunities, Gabriela Firea, wrote on Facebook.
Firea specified that a social investigation of the paternal grandparents' family will also take place, and all the documents and the results of the verifications will be made available to the Danish authorities, in order to serve as a legal basis for our request to bring the child back to Romania.
The Minister of Family explained that she asked the Danish authorities for a joint solution to bring the Rotundu family's child back to Romania, arguing that the best solution for any child in a difficult situation is not the state, but the extended family. This principle is also included in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and national legislation is adapted in this regard, Firea said, Agerpres.ro informs.
The Minister of Family underscored that the purpose of the Romanian authorities is to reunite the child with his family from Romania, not wanting an intervention in the evaluations of the Danish authorities, but offering support.
According to the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two Romanian parents of the child were detained by the Danish authorities after they went to the hospital with the minor, and the child is hospitalized in a medical unit in Denmark.
