The Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bucovina, Teofan, expressed fear toward a possible invalidation of the referendum for the redefinition of the family, following the vote absenteeism.

IPS Teofan told AGERPRES that the invalidation of the referendum will be a "lesson" and a signal that "we have warded off the values of our fathers."

"If the people don't go in enough number (to vote, ed. n.), it means we deserve our fate, it means we, as a church and as a nation, haven't done our duty enough to serve in relation with this land, that we have warded off the values of our fathers and that we are called to wake up, to act firmer in relation with our own life and the values we should defend. This event will be a lesson. It is a lesson!" IPS Teofan said.
