Minister of Education Sorin Cimpeanu declared on Thursday that the Financial Education Strategy will be put up for public debate for a three-week period.

"The strategy should cover several disciplines, in a way that is appropriate to the age of the students. For example, in the 5th and the 6th grade, students are taught to calculate percentages. Concrete examples can help for a better understanding of the subject, for instance financial interest rates, they can help students more easily acquire these skills, which are - if you want - at the border of mathematics and financial education. (...) A radical change in the teachers' continuing education is necessary, in the sense that we must develop the mechanisms for the continuing education of teachers. By September 2023 we must have the new framework plans for high school and the revised framework plans for secondary education ready," Cimpeanu told a debate organized by educational NGO Edupedu.

He also said that he supports the introduction of the discipline 'Education for life' in the curriculum, and that it will also include a Financial Education module, Agerpres.ro informs.

"I support the introduction of the discipline 'Education for life', which will have several modules: rational nutrition, legal education, traffic education, there will also be a financial education module. These modules may not necessarily be taught by tenured teachers, they can also be taught by experts. We are in the process of developing these mechanisms," said the Education Minister.
