The organisation of the World Junior Swimming Championships in Romania was not included in the initial budget plan for the year; however, a feasible funding source has been identified, unlocking the situation, Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare announced on Tuesday.

'In a financially difficult context such as the current one, where not everyone feels favoured by the decisions we are forced to take in order to restore the economy, prioritising resources is an extremely difficult choice. We clearly see the signals from the public sphere, and I assure you that we are carefully analysing needs and making every effort to secure resources, within the fragile limits of this year's budget. When it comes to real priorities, to moments that bring meaning and perspective to Romania, I am confident we will find solutions. I am pleased to announce that these days, together with the team at the Ministry of Finance, we managed to unblock the financial situation for organising the World Junior Swimming Championships - a unique event for our country, which will bring over 900 athletes from 124 countries to Romania. A major opportunity for sport and an extraordinary occasion for international promotion,' the minister wrote on his Facebook page.

He said that this competition was not included in the initial budget plan at the beginning of the year, and he thanked Camelia Potec, President of the Romanian Federation of Swimming and Modern Pentathlon, and Mihai Covaliu, President of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR), for their cooperation, involvement, as well as for 'believing in Romania's potential to perform at the highest level.'

'Such events mean more than just sport - they send a message to society as a whole: performance is built through hard work, perseverance and courage. We need this mindset not only in sport, but also in the economy and administration,' Alexandru Nazare pointed out.
