A total of 1,585 cases of clinical influenza were reported nationwide in the week of March 21 - 27, as to 10 in the same period of the previous year, the National Public Health Institute (INSP) announced on Thursday.
The number of cases of acute respiratory infections (clinical influenza, upper respiratory tract infections and pneumonia) hit 78,272 in the reporting period, up by 22.2 percent from 64,058 the week before, and 69.6 percent higher from the year-ago period (46.154), Agerpres.ro informs.
There have been 403 lab-confirmed flu cases since the beginning of the season, and no confirmed death from influenza viruses.
As of March 27, as many as 1,490,760 people from at-risk groups had taken the flu shot distributed by the Health Ministry, INSP reports.
