Footballer Ianis Hagi said on Tuesday evening, after a 0-0 draw with Bulgaria in a trial match, that every minute spent by Romania's side on the pitch counts toward competing in EURO 2024.
"A test match for us, after a hard week of training. Some came earlier, others later. It was good to see each other again on the pitch for the first time after two or three months. The minutes for each player mattered, every minute on the pitch counts, and so does the fact that we saw each other again," Hagi told Prima TV private broadcaster.
He sounded optimistic about Romania's participation in the European Football Championship in Germany.
"We are positive, optimistic, we can't wait to get there. We count the days and hours, we feel good in training, the energy is 100% directed towards the European Championship. We are aware of the responsibility we are shouldering, and we try to hold the flag as high as possible. I am now trying to give as much as possible for the national side to make a European Championship as good as possible, to represent Romania as it deserves. That's my thought, mentally I'm focused only on the EURO, to represent Romania as it should be," Hagi said.
In a friendly match on Tuesday evening at the Steaua Stadium in Bucharest, Romania and Bulgaria ended in a 0-0 draw, a penultimate test of the Romanian side before EURO 2024.
Romania will play another trial match before EURO 2024, on June 7, against Liechtenstein, also at the Steaua Stadium.
They will debut at EURO 2024 on June 17, against Ukraine, in Munich, and then will face Belgium on June 22 in Cologne and Slovakia on June 26 in Frankfurt in Group E.
