Senate President Ilie Bolojan attended on Friday the celebrations occasioned by the Day of the Unification of the Romanian Principalities in Focsani, deeming participation in such manifestations as form of gratitude for those who made Romania what it is today.

"I celebrated the Unification Day in Focsani. For 20 years since I have been in public office, I have participated in the marking of this important day for our country in Oradea. Both then and today I have considered it a form of gratitude for those who made our country what it is today, but also a form of respect for our citizens. Happy birthday, Romania! Happy birthday, dear Romanians!," Bolojan posted on Facebook.

The events in Focsani dedicated to the Day of the Unification of the Romanian Principalities, attended by several thousand people, were disrupted on Friday by booing from the crowd.

The events in Unirii Square opened with an enactmen of the Unification of the Principalities, performed by actors from the Focsani Municipal Theater.

The central authorities were represented by the President of the Senate, Ilie Bolojan, who received the greetings of the Guard of Honor, as well as by the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja.

The boos were heard in the Union Square even during the playing of the Romanian National Anthem.

The only speech was that of the Archbishop of Buzau and Vrancea, His Grace Ciprian Campineanul, who called on to those present to respect the solemnity of the moment.
