Romanian-Ukrainian pairing Gabriela Ruse/Marta Kostiuk qualified without a game for the semifinals of the women's doubles event at the Roland Garros tennis tournament, after Russian Mirra Andreeva/Vera Zvonareva failed to compete in Wednesday's quarterfinals.
Andreeva (17) and Zvonareva (39) withdrew after the teenager qualified for the semifinals of the singles event with a 6-7 (5/7), 6-4, 6-4 win over world number two Arina Sabalenka of Belarus.
Ruse and Kostiuk secured a EUR 148,000 cheque and 780 WTA doubles points.
This is the second Grand Slam doubles semifinal for Ruse and Kostiuk after the Australian Open in 2023.
In the penultimate round, Ruse and her partner will play against 11th seeded Italian pair Jasmine Paolini/Sara Errani.
In juniors, Luca Preda lost in the second round of the singles event, but qualified for the quarterfinals of the doubles event.
Preda, the fourth seed in singles, was defeated 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 by French player Moise Kouame.
In junior doubles, Preda and French player Thomas Faurel benefited from the absence of Tomasz Berkieta (Poland)/Charlie Robertson (UK). The next opponents for Preda/Faurel will be Russian Timofei Derepasko and Kazakh Amir Omarhanov.
