The Romanian-Ukrainian pair Gabriela Ruse/Marta Kostyuk advanced on Saturday to the doubles round of 16 at the WTA 1000 event, the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome, with a prize money of EUR 6,009,593, after a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Miyu Kato (Japan)/Aldila Sutjiadi (Indonesia).
Ruse and her partner won in 66 minutes.
The Romanian-Ukrainian pair secured a EUR 23,290 cheque and 120 WTA doubles points, and is set to face Ulrikke Eikeri (Norway)/Eri Hozumi (Japan).
In another first-round match, the Romanian-Polish pair Monica Niculescu/Katarzyna Piter was defeated by the top seeds Gabriela Dabrowski (Canada)/Erin Routliffe (New Zealand) 6-4, 6-1 in one hour and 13 minutes.
