Gopo 2019 awards: Morometii 2, Charleston, Love 1. Dog and Pororoca, most nominations

The movie Morometii 2, directed by Stere Gulea received most nominations - 14 - at the Gopo Awards, being seconded by Charleston, 13 nominations, Love 1. Dog, 11 nominations and Pororoca, 10.

According to the organisers, as many as 19 Romanian feature films launched in movie theatres in 2018 were considered by the jury to designate the nominations of the 13th edition of the Gopo Awards to be held on 19 March at the National Theatre in Bucharest.

Five movies have entered the race in the Best Feature category, as follows: Charleston (directed by Andrei Cretulescu), Dragoste 1. Caine / Love 1. Dog (directed by Florin Serban), Imi este indiferent daca in istorie vom intra ca barbari / I don't care if we go into history as barbarians (directed by Radu Jude), Morometii 2 (directed by Stere Gulea) and Pororoca (directed by Constantin Popescu).

For the statuette rewarding the best director nominated were Andrei Cretulescu, Florin Serban, Radu Jude, Stere Gulea and Constantin Popescu.

Silvana Mihai and Florentina Nastase (Cateva conversatii despre o fata foarte inalta / A few conversations about a very tall girl), Cosmina Stratan (Love 1. Dog), Dorotheea Petre (In pronuntare) and Irina Velcescu (Secretul fericirii / Secret of happiness) are competing for the statuette granted to the Best Leading Actress, and in the Best Leading Actor category nominated were Serban Pavlu (Charleston), Valeriu Andriuta ( Love 1. Dog), Horatiu Malaele (Morometii 2), Bogdan Dumitrache (Pororoca) and Vasile Pavel (Soldatii. Poveste din Ferentari / Soldiers. Ferentari story).

For the Best Supporting Actress title nominated were Ofelia Popii (Moon Hotel Kabul), Rodica Negrea (Moon Hotel Kabul), Dana Dogaru (Morometii 2), Oana Pellea (Morometii 2) and Iulia Lumanare (Pororoca), while for the Best Supporting Actor nominated were Victor Rebengiuc (Charleston), Alexandru Dabija (Imi este indiferent daca in istorie vom intra ca barbari), Alexandru Nagy (Moon Hotel Kabul), Constantin Dogioiu (Pororoca) and Laszlo Matray (Un print si jumatate / A prince and a half).

For the Best Scenario, the jury nominated Andrei Cretulescu (Charleston), Radu Jude (Imi este indiferent daca in istorie vom intra ca barbari), Stere Gulea (Morometii 2), Constantin Popescu (Pororoca) and Alexandru Popa (Secret of happiness).

The movies Caisa / Apricot (directed by Alexandru Mavrodineanu), Dacii liberi / Free Dacians (directors Andrei Gorgan and Monica Lazurean-Gorgan), Fotbal infinit / Infinite football (directed by Corneliu Porumboiu), Licu, o poveste romaneasca / Licu, a Romanian story (director Ana Dumitrescu) and PhoeniXXX (directed by Mihai Gavril Dragolea) are the five nominations to the Best Documentary Film category.

The Best European Movie category saw five nominations for five titles distributed in Romania's movie theatres in 2018 as follows: Dovlatov (directed by Aleksey German Jr.), The Killing of a Sacred Deer (director Yorgos Lanthimos), Utoya: 22 Juli (director Erik Poppe), Visages, villages (directed by Agnes Varda, JR), Un beau soleil interieur/ The beautiful sun inside(director Claire Denis).
