Government's Spokesman Dan Suciu on Wednesday said that by the end of the month a significant number of prefects would likely be replaced.
"A review was conducted of their activities as well as their behaviour in terms of reactions and wish not to get politically involved in the electoral campaign. The review is complete and very soon, probably by the end of the month; there will be replacements of a significant number of prefects," said Suciu after a meeting of the Government.
He explained that the Government would not be able to hold competitions to hire the replacements in a very short period of time at its disposal, and that is why it will appoint the future prefects.
Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos told a plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies on Monday that he asked the remaining state secretaries from the previous Cabinet not to do party politics, while suggesting the prefects and their deputies who want to take part in this year's elections to step down.
Spokesman Suciu said on February 3 that the Government will make a decision this month about modifications at the level of prefects as a review of their activity was underway. AGERPRES
