Gov't to consider aid scheme for Romanian farmers affected by rising grain imports from Ukraine

Featuring on government's agenda at today's meeting is a decision on emergency aid to Romanian agricultural producers affected by increasing grain and oilseed cropimports from Ukraine; approving a vegetable production support programme for protected areas in 2023-2024, and allocating money for the purpose of training specialist staff from Ukraine in providing qualified first aid, told Agerpres.

The draft decision on support for the cereal and oilseed sector says that the scheme is nationwide based on objective and non-discriminatory criteria and does not cause distortion of the market or competition, while the payment of the aid is carried out throughout December 31, 2023.

Other items on the agenda is approving agreements with Moldova on a road bridge over the Prut River at the border between the two countries, between the towns of Sculeni (Romania) - Sculeni (Moldova); a road bridge over the Prut River, at the border between the two countries, between the towns of Oancea (Romania) - Cahul (Moldova), and another road bridge over the Prut River, at the border between the two countries between the towns of Albita (Romania) - Leuseni (Moldova).

There is also a piece of legislation amending Government Decision 973/2006 regarding the applicable procedure in cases where a postponement of the final determination of the customs value is necessary, as well as the reorganisation of some departments operating under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The government is also considering extracting from the state reserves and granting external emergency humanitarian aid, free of charge, to Syria intended for the protection of the population affected by the latest major earthquake in Turkey.

It will also look at a piece of legislation approving an emergency plan for the security of natural gas supply in Romania approving measures for safety and security in the operation of the National Electrical Grid, as well as measures for replenishing the safety stocks of the National Electrical Grid in terms of fuels and the volume of water in the reservoirs November 1, 2023 - March 31, 2024.
