Green car sales surged by 215.75 percent in Romania in the first six months of the year, reaching 982 units, from 311 in the same period of 2016, according to statistics with the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers (APIA), consulted by AGERPRES.
Between January and June 2017, compared with the first six months of the previous year, the share of "green cars in total sales was 1.7 percent locally; sales of electric cars increased by 197.1 percent, while hybrid car sales recorded an increase by 218.1 percent.
At the same time, according to the cited statistics, in June 2017, 265 electric and hybrid vehicles were sold, up 56.08 percent from the previous month's, 169.
Topping the ranking of the most traded hundred-percent electric vehicle brands in the first six months of the year is Mercedes-Benz , with 32 units, followed by BMW (29), Renault (12), Audi (8), Volkswagen and Volvo (5 units each), Mitsubishi and Porsche (4 each).
At the same time, most hybrid cars sold in Romania from January to June 2017 were Toyotas (791 units), followed by Lexi (72), Kias (8) and Mercedes-Benzes (2).
Official statistics show that last year the number of new hybrid and electric cars sold in Romania was 1,183 units, up 138 percent from 2015, out of which 167 were hundred-percent electric vehicles.
A new edition of the Car Scrappage Plus Programme, launched on May 10, for the purchase of environmentally-friendly cars, is currently underway.
Under it, the value of one eco-ticket for those who want to buy a new hundred-percent electric vehicle is 10,000 euros, and 4,500 euros for the plug-in hybrids.
