The terrible tragedy at the Children's Hospital in Iasi, where several children lost their lives, shows that hospital-acquired infections and outdated infrastructure represent a real danger to patients, President Nicusor Dan said on Monday in a message read by state advisor Catalina Galer at the "Heart Gala" event.

"We urgently need new hospitals, major investments in intensive care units and firm infection prevention and control protocols," the head of state said.

He congratulated the Romanian Heart Foundation, the Romanian Society of Cardiology and the Ministry of Health for developing the National Strategy for Combating Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases 2025 - 2030, an integral part of the National Health Strategy.

"The launch of this essential strategic document marks a major step in the reform of the Romanian healthcare system, with the objective of reducing mortality caused by these diseases, through measures aimed at increasing early diagnosis capacity, establishing community centers and modernizing hospitals," added the head of state.

He showed that Romanian medicine has many success stories, examples of professional and dedicated people, who deserve our appreciation, because their results generate increasingly higher standards in medical practice in Romania, with direct benefits for people.

"I encourage the promotion of excellence and I am convinced that, through our joint efforts, we can contribute to the reconstruction of the healthcare system in our country, shaping a healthier and more prosperous future," said Nicusor Dan.
