The number of Internet users increases by 3.8 per cent this year compared with last year, reaching up to 11 million persons, shows the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
"The Internet, the information and communication spaces becomes increasingly more interesting for all categories of people. The number of internauts grows every year. Thus, in 2017, the weight of Internet users aged 16-74 increased by 3.8 percentage points, up to 11 million people. In 2017, most people are current users, with 86.8 of the people aged 16-74 having used the Internet in the previous 3 months to the survey, among whom 73.3% are using this instrument daily or almost daily and 22 per cent are using it on a weekly basis," shows the poll.
By employment status of the persons aged 16-74, the largest weight in the daily or almost daily users of Internet belongs to employees (61.7 per cent) and then, following from a long distance, by pupils/students (15.1 per cent).
"The desire to have access to information is found both in men and women, with the latter staying behind the men "internauts" in terms of the time spent using the Internet (74.8 per cent of the men and 72.1 per cent of the women), with the same situation recorded in 2006. The highest weight in those using the Internet daily belongs to men aged 16-34 (49.8 per cent), with the same situation recorded for women, meaning the same age category (48.6 per cent)," reads INS.
In respect to the employment status, it was noticed that 9 0f 10 pupils and students (92.6 per cent) accessed the Internet daily in the past three months and almost 1 of 2 pensioners (47.3 per cent).
