One person died last week from the flu, the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) informed on Thursday.
Since the start of the season, 89 deaths caused by influenza have been reported.
"In the week 16 - 22 March, 84,209 cases of respiratory infections (clinical influenza, acute upper respiratory tract infections and pneumonia) were reported, representing 5.1% fewer cases compared with the previous week (80,110) and 135% fewer cases compared with the same week of the previous season (97,315). The negative variation compared with the calculated average of 94,419 cases from recent seasons (2018-2025, excluding the pandemic seasons) was 10.8%," the INSP informs.
In the same period, 845 cases of clinical flu were reported nationwide, compared with 795 in the previous week and 3,845 in the same week of the previous season and a five-season average of 1,650.
In the same interval, 17 cases of laboratory-confirmed influenza were recorded (1 with influenza virus AH3, 2 with influenza virus AH1 and 14 with unsubtyped influenza virus A).
By 22 March, a total of 1,308,878 influenza vaccinations had been recorded in the National Electronic Vaccination Register, of which 1,281,815 were administered to population groups eligible for reimbursement under the compensated scheme, including 6,106 influenza vaccinations administered in authorised community pharmacies.
