The 12th edition of the International Literature Festival in the European Capital of Culture TM2023, which takes place between 25 and 28 October in several cities in the west of the country, has opened its doors, on Wednesday evening, in the Baroque Hall of the Timisoara National Art Museum (MNArT), under the motto "Literature, protected area".

"The edition's slogan is 'Literature, a protected area', which is our guide, because we all feel the need for protection, we live next to a war on the northern border of the country, we feel that things are no longer as they were before and the most important is to feel protected. Literature needs the same thing. People who tell stories, who try to capture our attention and explain the world to us, also need this kind of protection. Literature doesn't always have the best answers, but always asks the best questions," said the director of the Festival, writer Robert Serban.

The writer from Timisoara explained that MNArT will be a central place these days, because the Baroque Hall brings together for four days important names of literature, very good writers, always chosen with great care.

"We start with poetry, with a grandiose evening with six poets, three of whom are established, studied in textbooks, Ana Blandiana, Ion Muresan and Balazs Attila and three debutant ones. This was the challenge, to put the generations face to face, because in first of all, the audience is addressed to lovers of literature and we are betting a lot on young people. That's why this year, too, we are making several visits to four high schools and three towns in the county, where the writers invited to the festival will meet, first of all, with the students, because I believe that this collision of writers with readers is important, of their descent from textbooks into the midst of students. There will follow an evening dedicated to discussions with four writers who have Romanian roots, but who live in the German space, where they have established themselves already. Another evening will belong to prose, with writers from Israel, Iceland, Switzerland, the Republic of Moldova, who will discuss the novel, prose and reality," said Robert Serban.

The festival brings together 40 writers from the country and abroad.
