Former tennis player Ion Tiriac said on Monday, commenting on the results of the first round of the presidential elections, that it would be very good for the next president of Romania to stand with sports, informs Agerpres.
"It would be very good for the next president to stand with sports I went to the current president and I asked him to hire two people to do nothing but look for athletes, I was not successful, I am sorry. Let's hope that the future holds other solutions ", Tiriac said on Monday evening at the Gala 110 years of Olympism in Romania.
Asked whether he knows what TikTok means, the app through which Calin Georgescu, the candidate who won the first round of the elections, promoted himself, the businessman answered: "I don't know what TikTok means, but I guess what it means. The first seven companies in the world are IT companies, so artificial intelligence. Today's society cannot avoid technology. The first companies don't make shoes, but technology that will hold jobs in the future".
Ion Tiriac told everyone to vote and mentioned that he would like the future president to stand straight and not on his knees in Brussels. "I would like a president who would go to Brussels and stand straight, not on his knees and tell those who are associated with us in the EU, about who we were, who we should be and who we can be. Unfortunately, we didn't have anything like that. Of course, a woman can do something like that. Did you hear about Margaret Thatcher? Did Great Britain have a better prime minister? It has nothing to do with gender. It has to do with mentality and talent. It is everyone's moral duty to vote. So everyone should vote and we'll see what we'll have in the future," said Tiriac.
According to the Permanent Electoral Authority, candidate Calin Georgescu (independent) won the first round of the elections, with 2,120,404 votes (22.94%), being followed in second place by Elena Lasconi (USR), with 1,772,503 votes (19.18%).
