Romanian-Serbian pair Irina Begu / Nina Stojanovic qualified for the doubles quarterfinals of the Melbourne Summer Set 2 (WTA 250) tennis tournament, with total prizes of 239,477 US dollars, by defeating Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil) / Nuria Parrizas Diaz (Spain) 7-6 (4), 6-4, Agerpres reports.
Begu and Stojanovic, who were originally scheduled to play against Ana Kalinskaya (Russia) / Marta Kostiuk (Ukraine), won in an hour and 34 minutes.
The Romanian-Serbian couple secured a cheque for 2,300 dollars and 60 WTA points in doubles, and in the quarterfinals they will face the pair Aliona Bolsova (Spain) / Katarzyna Kawa (Poland).
Irina Begu is qualified in the singles second round and will play against the Italian Jasmine Paolini on Thursday.
