Romania has backed right from the start the goal of the Social Pillar for a common approach to the protection and development of social rights, said on Tuesday Minister of Labor and Social Justice, Lia-Olguta Vasilescu, at the Tripartite Social Summit, held at the Council of the European Union, a release from the relevant ministry informs.
"The proclamation of the European Pillar of social rights in November last year underlines once more the importance of the social dimension of the European Union. Romania has backed right from the start the goal of the Social Pillar for a common approach to the protection and development of social rights The Social Pillar is an essential tool for accomplishing social justice and equality in the EU, which must lead to increased social convergence between the member states and within them. We consider that the principles and rights stipulated in the Pillar must become a reality for all citizens. This is a common task requiring collaboration between the EU institutions, member states, social partners and civil society. The Social Pillar has relaunched an ambitious social agenda of the EU which, through strong social dialogue and consistent legislative proposals, has the potential to strengthen the rights of the EU citizens," said Lia-Olguta Vasilescu.
Among the European social partners attending the discussion were Dumitru Costin, president of the National Trade Union Bloc, and Mihai Bogza, executive director of Concordia Employers' Confederation.
The Minister of Labor and Social Justice also had a bilateral meeting with Marianne Thyssen, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Competencies and Mobility, to whom she presented Romania's priorities to the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
