The authorities are targeting an employment rate higher than 70 percent in the coming two or three years and the Labor Ministry's strategy for the next period is aimed at improving employment measures, Labor Minister Marius Budai announced on Wednesday evening.

"The strategy of the Labor Ministry for the next period is to improve employment incentives. We need to close this gap resulted from the decrease of the employment rate in this time of economic and health crisis. We set ourselves as a goal to top the 70 percent employment rate by 2023 or if not, towards the end of 2024. This is a goal committed to before the European Commission and we cannot do this but through clear measures," Budai said at the Financial Intelligence Gala.

The Labor Minister specified that the governing program for the period 2021 - 2024 provides for grants for the qualification of employees.

"The measures set forth in the 2021 - 2024 governing program follow two distinct directions. One is employee qualification/re-qualification. The economic program provides for certain grants for employers to be able to qualify their personnel and adjust it to the needs which are for certain different now, after the crisis. I am calling on you for us to work together, to form joint working groups in order to sort out within the shortest term, through dialogue, all the issues you might encounter and which fall under the competence of the Labor Ministry of Labor," the LabMin told the businesspeople present at the event.

He also announced his intention to convene the Tripartite National Council before the winter holidays and to initiate the dialogue for the improvement of labor legislation.

"In my first term I worked very well with SME representatives, with the Coalition for Romania's Development and other employers' and trade union organizations. I would like to send out a direct invitation to the business community for us to improve labor legislation by taking into account what Romania and the entire world has experienced in these two difficult years for both those who run and manage a business, regardless of its size, and for the employees. This is where I think the Labor Ministry can step in as an integrator that promotes an honest social dialogue in both directions, between the employee and the employer. That Tripartite National Council must really work. I want to call a Tripartite National Council meeting until the holidays - and the Premier agreed with this - for us to effectively start working on what we need in the post-Covid period," Marius Budai said.

The Labor Minister attended on Wednesday evening the fourth Financial Intelligence Awards Gala.
