Romania is an exemplary homeland for its citizens belonging to national minorities, Gheorghe Nacov, an MP of the parliamentary group of national minorities, told a plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies on Monday, May 27, Bulgarian Language Day in Romania.
"Mother tongue, both spoken and written, is some of the most important pillars that support and at the same time express the identity of a nation. (...) Throughout history not only the Orthodox faith and the Danube, but also many other things have united the Romanian and Bulgarian nations. Romania was a shelter for Bulgarian revolutionaries, home for Bulgarian emigrants and a worthy ally for the liberation of Bulgaria," said Nacov.
He added that May 24 is also Day of Saints Cyril and Methodius, creators of the first Slavic and Cyrillic alphabet.
"Romania is an exemplary homeland for its citizens who belong to national minorities. I am once again expressing my gratitude to the Bulgarian minority for this. (...) Romania is a model to follow for all states that support democratic and European values."
Also attending the plenary session was Bulgaria's ambassador in Bucharest Radko Vlaykov.
