The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) on Tuesday rejected the appeal of President Klaus Iohannis against the Law on amending and supplementing the normative act 73/1993 for the establishment, organisation and functioning of the Legislative Council.
According to a CCR press release sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, by a majority of votes, the Constitutional Court rejected as unfounded the objection of unconstitutionality raised by the Romanian president and found that the Law on the amendment and supplementing of Law 73/1993 on the establishment, organisation and functioning of the Legislative Council is constitutional in relation to the criticisms raised.
The law, sent on March 16, 2024 by Parliament to the President for promulgation, regulates the duration of the terms of office of the president of the Legislative Council and the presidents of the sections, which can be renewed once, as the current terms of office will end 5 years after the entry into force of the law.
The normative act also provides for the introduction of provisions on the career development of non-legal staff, the amendment of some procedures and tasks of the Legislative Council, the restructuring of departments within the Council, as well as the harmonisation of some legal rules with the applicable framework legislation.
