The National Liberal Party (PNL) will initiate a debate at the European Parliament level, aiming to specifically request the European Commission to challenge, with the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), the legislation adopted by Parliament in Vienna, regarding the reduction in allowances for the children of foreign workers who are not residing on the territory of the Austrian state, MEP Daniel Buda stated.
"Today, we discussed in the Executive Bureau meeting about the Law adopted by Parliament in Vienna, referring to the reduction in allowances for the children of foreign workers and who are not residing in Austria, a law which actually reduces the allowances by half of all the children of these workers who, I repeat, do not live in Austria. In this context, taking into account that the PNL is the only party that showed concern, throughout time, in respect to the fate of the Romanian citizens, regardless of where they live, we addressed a letter and a question to the European Commission ever since July 2018 and, in September, the European Commission, through Mrs Commissioner Marianne Thyssen, responded very clearly that the adoption of such a legislation breaches the European regulations, more precisely the European Commission's Regulation No. 883 of 2004. In this context, we decided within today's Executive Bureau meeting to start a debate within the European Parliament, where we shall specifically request to the European Commission to challenge this legislation with the Court of Justice of the European Union, because, as I underscored, it breaches the European Union regulations," Daniel Buda stated on Monday, at the end of the PNL's Executive Bureau meeting.
