Social Democrat MEP Vasile Dincu was elected on Thursday Vice-President of the European Parliament's Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA).

"I am honored to be elected today Vice-President of the European Parliament's Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), at a crucial moment for the security of the continent and for the reconfiguration of our joint responsibilities in the face of hybrid, conventional and geopolitical threats affecting the eastern flank of the Alliance. For me, this election is not only a recognition of the work I carried out in recent years in the field of defense and democratic resilience, but also a mission of active engagement in defining a new strategic horizon for Romania within NATO," Dincu wrote on Facebook, agerpres reports.

He also mentioned some of the strategic frameworks and priorities he will focus on at the lead of the delegation.

"My vision for this position: from defense to strategic reconstruction. The NATO Summit in The Hague has opened a new stage, in which collective security becomes, more than ever, a project of political, industrial and societal reconstruction. In this context, Romania must fully take on the role as a pillar of regional stability and strategic capability on the eastern flank. This means not only an active military participation, but also a consistent vision of reconstructing the national security ecosystem, from industry and infrastructure to research and strategic culture," he noted.

Dincu also says that a profound reform of the way we understand and organize military production in Romania is essential, suggesting a model "where the National Defense Ministry becomes the strategic core of this reconstruction, in coordination with the Ministry of Economy, but with a clear architecture of responsibilities, based on operational needs and multi-annual planning."

"We need an integrated hub of acquisitions, research, standardization and production, which works in the logic of Euro-Atlantic interoperability", the Social Democratic MEP said, noting also that as the reconstruction of logistics capacities, military transport networks, secure communications and energy infrastructure is becoming a strategic priority, Romania must become a key beneficiary of the ReArm Europe initiative and of European funds intended for dual-use infrastructure.

"The Black Sea file needs to become a European priority. In parallel, the European strategy for the Black Sea must be transformed from a document of intent into a concrete pillar of the EU's common foreign and security policy. Romania must support: the creation of a Special Black Sea Resilience Package, which should include funding for infrastructure, environment, digitalization and civil defense, support for Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova in interconnection projects, training and port security, a NATO-EU center for Black Sea monitoring and rapid response, with a civil and military component," he said.

Dincu mentioned that a new architecture is needed for Romania inside NATO, and that Romania should not be only a loyal participant, but also an active architect of the new defense-oriented Europe.
