Military firefighters working to extinguish a wildfire that broke out in a hard-to-reach area near Valiug, in Caras-Severin County, intervened on Thursday using a Black Hawk helicopter in an attempt to extinguish the fire, which is burning in multiple hotspots.

In the two days since the fire began, approximately 10 hectares of dry vegetation, scrub and bushes have been affected. The intervention has been hampered by the difficult terrain, according to the Caras-Severin County Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU).

"Today (Thursday), a Black Hawk helicopter from the General Aviation Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Bucharest, was requested for support. The helicopter is refilled with water from Lake Gozna Valiug, in order to ensure the continuity of operations to locate and extinguish the active hotspots," the source mentioned.

During the morning, the helicopter carried out 22 water drops over the active fire areas.

A total of 28 people are involved in the firefighting mission, including military firefighters, forestry workers and volunteers from the Valiug emergency response unit.

In addition, four fire engines and two off-road vehicles from the local forestry office are on site.
