Each Romanian must feel that Romania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union is focused on the citizens and their expectations regarding the EU, Minister-delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu says in a release sent to AGERPRES on Friday.

According to the release, the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), through the Minister-delegate for European Affairs, organised on Thursday, with the support of the Interior Ministry (MAI), the first national videoconference devoted to Romania's Presidency of the Council of the EU with prefects, representatives of the county councils and other officials of the county seats.

MAE points out that during the meeting there were highlighted the progresses recorded in the process of preparing Romania's Presidency of the Council of the EU, a mandate which Romania will exert for six months, starting 1 January 2019. At the same time, the action directions have been established in view of continuing the demarches of organisation, in accordance with the decisions adopted in the fifth meeting of the Interministerial Council for the Preparation and Execution of Romania's Presidency of the Council of the EU.

According to Minister Negrescu, the process of organising the actions under Romania's Presidency of the Council of the EU all over the country has been initiated.

"It is important to take advantage of this moment to increase Romania's awareness, and in this respect we wish to involve all available sources, both on a national level and on a local one. Our goal is that each Romanian, wherever he/she may be, feel that they are holding part of this presidency and that, indeed, this mandate is about the citizens and their expectations concerning the European Union, as well as about our country's role within the community project," Negrescu underlined.

Romania will take over for six months, starting 1 January 2019, the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, one of the seven institutions of the Union. Romania is part of the presidency trio also including Finland and Croatia, the release also reads.
