More than 4,000 spectators watched the national premiere of the film "Kidnapped", directed by Marco Belloccio, which opened the 20th edition of the Anonimul International Independent Film Festival, scheduled for August 14-20.

The film "Kidnapped" had its international premiere in the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival, the organisers said in a press release on Tuesday.

The festival director at Anonimul International Film Festival, Miruna Berescu, stressed, at the opening gala on Monday evening, the importance of the constant support of the public, but also of the community of Sfantu Gheorghe, represented again this year by the vocal group "Ciornii Morii" which sang songs in Romanian and Ukrainian.

"It's hard to run a cultural event for 20 years uninterrupted, there's a lot of work behind it, which is why we are happy when we see the joy, support and, let me say, love coming from people who have been to the Festival at least once. We are happy to feel the warmth of the people in Sfantu Gheorghe and to welcome them all again this year with films brought to Romania for the first time right after the Cannes or Locarno Festival," said Miruna Berescu.

According to the organisers, the workshop "My vocation, film" for teenagers from the Danube Delta's villages has reached its second edition. The social-cultural project of non-formal education among pupils in the Danube Delta area consists this year in a series of activities to stimulate and facilitate access to cultural education. This year participants will also benefit from meetings with several personalities from the film industry, among them Emanuel Parvu (actor and director), film critic Ionut Mares and the famous actor Vlad Ivanov. "My vocation, film" will take place from August 15-20 within the ANONIMUL Festival and is a programme organised by FAMart Association, with the support of E-ON Romania.

The Anonimul 2023 programme also includes other related events. On Wednesday, August 16, at 11:00, the festival tent set up in the campsite will host a meeting of the Anonimul Talks series with actors Vlad Ivanov and Ilinca Manolache, directors Alexandru Solomon and Emanuel Parvu, producers Ada Solomon and Miruna Berescu, selectors Ludmila Cvikova, Ionut Mares and filmmaker Laurentiu Damian - president of the Romanian Filmmakers Union, where they will discuss Romanian film, under the title "Audience expectations vs. filmmakers' expectations".

The audience in Sfantu Gheorghe will also be able to enjoy the hybrid show of the band Dl Goe, based on the "Fata Morgana" album, whose music is illustrated by a series of clips that form a film that can be seen on Wednesday, August 16, in Green Dolphin Camping.

On Thursday, August 17, OTP Bank Romania will organise, together with the festival team, the "Vreau o Delta ca-n filme" (I want a Delta like in the movies) greening action, which will collect waste from the Danube Delta with the help of the Association Ape Fara Plastic (Waters without Plastic) and volunteers who can sign up at: https://bit.ly/vreauodeltacanfilme.

On 19 August, at the closing gala, Japanese-born director Naomi Kawase will receive the Anonimul Trophy for her contribution to the beauty of universal cinema, and the evening will be closed by the first-time screening of the "Official Film of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Side A" and a concert by the famous band Suie Paparude.

The festival programme includes two competitions of Romanian and international short films, a competition of feature films and screenings outside the competition. All of them will take place in the presence of members of the production teams and will be shown both in the cinema set up in the campsite and in the Green Village.

The ANONIMUL programme can be found at https://bit.ly/Anonimul2023, and zero-value tickets for the screenings can be purchased at https://eventbook.ro/festival/festivalul-international-de-film-independent-anonimul, the organisers add.
