The majority of Romania's prosumers (53%) would purchase a battery storage system, but there is also a large category (47%) that does not have enough information about the advantages of batteries or does not know anything about them, reveals a sociological survey carried out for the despre-energie.ro platform, a project of the companies E.ON and Delgaz Grid.
According to the survey, 82% would be interested in or would consider the purchase of a battery energy storage system, and 57% of Romanians living in blocks of flats believe that installing photovoltaic panels on the roof of buildings would be beneficial to residents.
Asked if they know what are the advantages of a battery storage system, most respondents (53%) say they understand what the benefits are and how the system works, 37% say that they have heard about this subject, but that they do not know too many details, and 10% say that they do not know the advantages.
Regarding the main motivation for investing in a battery storage system, most of the respondents (43%) say that reducing energy bills would be the main reason, almost 36% indicated energy independence, 19% safety in case of power outages, and 2% environmental or other benefits.
For 72% of respondents, price is the main impediment to purchasing a battery storage system. About 6% say that the space for the installation and integration of the storage system with the already installed PV system is one of the big problems. Another 2% say that such a system is not useful to them.
Asked about the opportunity and advantages of installing photovoltaic panels in apartment buildings, almost 57% of Romanians living in such buildings believe that it would benefit all tenants for homeowners' associations to install such systems. On the other hand, 28% believe that the installation of photovoltaic panels in blocks depends on the cost-benefit ratio, 6% believe that panels are not feasible for block buildings, and 8% admit that they have not thought about this aspect.
