The General Staff of the Land Forces (SMFT) has completed the operations necessary to declare the initial operational capability (IOC) of the NATO Battle Group to be set up in Romania, as part of the Allied measures to strengthen vigilance on the eastern Flank - enhanced Vigilance Activities (eVA).

The initial operational capability the SMFT designed is based on the authority of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) to coordinate all Allied activities to strengthen NATO vigilance, according to a Ministry of National Defence (MApN) release sent on Tuesday to AGERPRES.

According to the Ministry of National Defence, the enhanced Vigilance Activities (eVA) implemented by NATO represent "a decisive message of the cohesion and determination of the alliance".

"These defensive measures are intended to increase the readiness and prevention of all forms of aggression against the Alliance and to clearly demonstrate NATO's firm commitment to the defence of all allies," the Ministry of National Defence said in the release, Agerpres informs.
