The pensions of magistrates will not exceed 70% of their last net salary, and the transition period to the retirement age of 65 will be 15 years, calculated from 1 January 2026.
These are the main provisions of the new draft law on magistrates' service pensions, initiated by the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Justice, which was published on Wednesday under the decision-making transparency procedure.
According to the draft, the pension amount will represent 55% of the calculation base, which is the average of gross salaries over the last five years, but no more than 70% of the last net salary.
The transition period to the retirement age of 65 will be 15 years, calculated from 1 January 2026.
For the minimum 25 years of service required to retire, up to 10 years of activity in other legal fields will be considered equivalent, the draft adds, according to a government press release.
"Given the importance of a rapid legislative process, the Government hopes that the approval process, including by the Superior Council of Magistracy, will proceed swiftly," reads the release.
