Numismatic issue to celebrate 100 years since Romania won its first Olympic medal

On June 5, 2024, the National Bank of Romania puts into circulation for numismatic purposes a silver coin of a nominal value of RON 10 to mark 100 years since Romania won its first Olympic medal.

Featuring on the obverse of the coin is an image of the diploma awarded to the rugby squad members in 1924, after Romania won the first Olympic medal at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris, the inscription "ROMANIA" in an arc, the face value "10 LEI", the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue "2024."

On the reverse, there is a composition featuring a rugby ball, Romania's rugby squad in 1924, as well as the inscriptions "PRIMA MEDALIE OLIMPICA A ROMANIEI - 1924" and "100 DE ANI."

The silver coins are housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue and certificates of authenticity in Romanian, English and French. The certificates of authenticity bear the signatures of the governor and the chief cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The silver coins to mark 100 years since Romania won its first Olympic medal are legal tender in Romania. They are put into circulation at the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Craiova, Iasi and Timisoara.
