O'Sullivan advances to European Masters snooker tournament in Bucharest

Five-time world snooker champion Ronnie O'Sullivan on Wednesday advanced to the quarter-finals of the European Masters snooker tournament in Bucharest at Globus Circus.

 

O'Sullivan prevailed 4-2 over North Ireland's Mark Allen.

 

John Higgins was the first to secure a berth in the quarter-finals as he defeated Tom Ford 4-3. Although not displaying his best, the four-time world champion barely squeaked by after being led 2-1 3-2 by Ford. The mentally stronger Higgins won the decisive set at the end of a fragmented fixture, according to organisers.

 

In another second round fixture, Elfie Burden defeated Ricky Walden 4-3.

 

Neil Robertson also managed to advance as he eased past young Rhys Clark 4-1, with a spectacular break of 103 in the fourth frame.

 

Today's fixtures: Mark Davis - Liang Wenbo; Anthony McGill - Scott Donaldson; Andrew Higginson - Judd Trump; and Mark Selby - Barry Hawkins.

 

The prize money of the competition is 350,000 euros, 80,000 euros for the winner and 50,000 euros for the runner-up. agerpres.
