Over 6,000 operational staff of the Romanian Water National Administration (ANAR) are currently being employed in monitoring and intervention missions in the country's areas under hydrological warnings.

According to ANAR, in the counties most affected by the floods of the last few days - Brasov and Covasna - about 150 employees are ready to intervene at critical points.

"The National Administration Romanian Water has ordered subordinated departments to relocate high-capacity motor pumps from the neighbouring counties to the areas of Covasna and Brasov in order to strengthen the intervention capacity. In order to protect the locality of Borosneu Mare (Covasna County), during the night of May 28, a controlled breach was executed in the dam on the right bank of the Zagon stream, about 500 meters upstream from its confluence with the Covasna stream. The measure was necessary to protect the approximately 80 homes on the left bank. Also, the Romanian Water stepped in during the night with over 10,000 sandbags, to defend the households in danger."

ANAR says that the risk remains high in the area of Lunca Marcusului and Bacel, at the confluence of the Tarlung River and the Negru River.

So far, all the reservoirs in the areas under the hydrological warnings - Paltinu, Maneciu, Siriu, Ialomita, Poiana Uzului, Sacele have taken over 20 million cubic metres of water and are still ready to secure the safe transit of floods.

"In collaboration with Hidroelectrica, the flash floods recorded on the Trotus and Siret rivers are steered away in a controlled manner through the reservoirs on the Siret River. The Trotus flash floods have been attenuated, and the reservoirs are prepared for a new flood wave that will form on the Trotus River. Also, the Stanca - Costesti reservoir is ready to take over the Prut River flood water forecast to happen very soon," according to ANAR. AGERPRES
