Patriarch Daniel awarded on Saturday, after the Holy Mass, several distinctions to people who made efforts for the organisation of the festive events occasioned by the 250th anniversary of the bringing of the relics of Saint Dimitrie (Demetrius) the New to Bucharest, Agerpres reports.
During the event, which took place in the Europa Christiana Hall of the Patriarchal Palace, the Metropolitan Order of St. Devout Dimitrie the New, the Patron Saint of Bucharest, was awarded to clergy and laymen, as well as the Diploma and the 250th anniversary medal for the 250th anniversary of the bringing of the relics of St. Devout Dimitrie the New to Bucharest, basilica.ro informs.
At the ceremony, Patriarch Daniel awarded several places of worship in the Archdiocese of Bucharest with a veil that covered the relics of St. Dimitrie.
"We would like to congratulate all those who received these awards as a sign of gratitude and appreciation on our part, because this feast, recently established, 250 years after the relics of St. Dumitru the New were brought here, is a sign of gratitude to the Saint, but also to those who contributed to the organisation of the feast. (...) There were a lot of clergy and lay people who contributed in a substantial way and with a lot of physical and intellectual efforts," said Patriarch Daniel, adding that the activity can be a model for other saints' honours.
"This gratitude must be cultivated as an extension of the Holy mystery of gratitude, which is the Holy Eucharist," emphasised the patriarch, recalling that in Greek, Eucharist means gratitude or thanksgiving to God for the blessings received from Him.
Patriarch Daniel also said that there are many other occasions to highlight the praying saints of the Romanian nation.
Also on Saturday, the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church issued an anniversary act on the 250th anniversary of the bringing of the relics of St. Dimitrie the New to Bucharest.
The document, written on parchment and signed by all the members of the Holy Synod, was read by the Romanian patriarch at the end of the Holy Mass.
