The post-2020 cohesion policy must remain the main investment policy inside the European Union (EU), Minister delegate for European Funds Rovana Plumb said in Warsaw, while attending the meeting of ministers of the Visegrad +4 states in charge with the cohesion policy, according to a press release of the Romanian authorities sent to Agerpres on Thursday.

"The future of the cohesion policy is closely linked to that of the European Union, with guaranteeing a strong and efficient European cohesion policy being essential, in order to generate an intelligent, sustainable and inclusion-favourable growth in all European regions. The post-2020 cohesion policy must remain the main investment policy inside the EU," Plumb said.

The Romanian minister drew the attention on the fact that the cohesion policy must be a budget pillar of the EU, and partnership, solidarity and subsidiarity principles should remain the essential components of this European policy, which is extremely important for the EU member states. Moreover, Rovana Plumb also said that the future cohesion policy should be simplified and flexible in order to encourage the local authorities to use European funds in a better manner than in the past. The Minister delegate for European funds signed during the meeting the joint position document on the post-2020 cohesion policy. The document includes a common position of the states participating in the Visegrad Group (Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia), on the one hand, and Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Slovenia (V+4), on the other hand, towards the general orientations on the cohesion policy for the post-2020 financial programming period.

Corina Cretu, the European Commissioner for regional policy, maintained that the aim of the cohesion policy is that if improving the daily life of everyone. "The aim of the cohesion policy is to improve everyone's daily life. This is the reason for which we must fight for it and its future, as it is our common future: jobs and economic growth through the cohesion policy, jobs and economic growth for everyone, for all regions," Cretu said. Romania's delegation was headed by Minister delegate for European funds Rovana Plumb.
