Prime minister Ilie Bolojan on Tuesday marked the National Anthem Day by sending a message in which he emphasised that the relevance of the anthem it's the same today as it was during the revolutionary movements of 1848, in terms of the need for unity and courage.
"National Anthem Day is a good moment to remember the reason why "Awaken Thee, Romanian!" was written. Our anthem appeared during the revolutionary movements of 1848, in response to the need for unity and courage. In those difficult times, Romanians were fighting for rights, freedom and dignity," Ilie Bolojan said.
The head of Executive pointed out that, currently, Romania is not at war, but is facing "real challenges", noting that society needs trust and functioning institutions.
"Today we are no longer at war, but we are faced with real challenges: a society that needs trust, institutions that need to start functioning and an economy that needs to deliver results, not just promises. The Anthem's message - that of not standing aside - is just as relevant. Each of us has a share of responsibility. Happy National Anthem Day! Happy birthday, Romania!" the prime minister said.
Romania's National Anthem Day - "Awaken Thee, Romanian!", a symbol of the unity of the Romanian Revolution of 1848 - is celebrated annually on July 29, the date on which, in 1848, "Wake up, Romanian!" was officially sung for the first time in Zavoi Park in Ramnicu Valcea.
