Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu and Defence Minister Angel Tilvar on Thursday greeted Romanian citizens repatriated from Lebanon, at the airport in Bucharest.

"War has turned their lives upside down. But today, almost 70 children, women, old people and people with serious medical problems were repatriated from Lebanon. Romania never abandons its citizens in difficulty! I want to thank the diplomats, the military and all the employees of the Romanian state bodies who made this mission possible! Together with my colleagues from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Defence, we will continue to safely repatriate the Romanian citizens who ask for our support," Ciolacu wrote in a social media post.

Among those repatriated are mothers with children, vulnerable people and their families, according to the Romanian government.

The transport was carried out with a C 130 Hercules aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, at the request of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, "amidst rapidly deteriorating security situation in the Middle East."

"The Romanian government does not leave any Romanian without support, regardless of where they are. There are mothers with children, people from vulnerable categories, entire families that we are bringing safely to Romania. The response of the Romanian government is an act of normalcy, all the more so as our compatriots have asked for the support of the authorities to be assisted for repatriation from Lebanon, a country where there are security risks. Let me thank [foreign minister] Luminita Odobescu, [defence minister] Angel Tilvar and the teams of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Defence, all the bodies of the Romanian government involved in this effort."

The government says that the Romanian authorities will continue steps to assist with the repatriation of other Romanian citizens and their family members having requested support and who are still in Lebanon.
