PM Ciolacu: I know sleepless nights, thinking about how to repay loans, pay wages on schedule
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Wednesday that he was a small entrepreneur "at a rather chaotic time" and knows what sleepless nights mean "thinking about how to repay a loan and also pay the employees' wages on schedule with all related taxes."
"Dear entrepreneurs, I am asking you now to get together to build a fair Romania, an orderly Romania, a country that is fair to all its taxpayers, fair to those who have sacrificed their time with their families, energy and health to build solid companies that make Romanian products. I was also a small entrepreneur at a rather chaotic time. I once took out a bank loan with an interest rate of 158%. I know what it means to have sleepless nights thinking about how to repay the loan, and also pay the wages of the employees on schedule with all related taxes. You will have an ally in me, in this government and in this coalition. First of all, we will continue to allocate to the Romanian economy the largest volume of financial resources that the Romanian state can afford," Ciolacu said at the 21st edition of the National Ranking of Romania's Privately-owned Companies.
He added that the leaders of the ruling coalition will do everything possible to give Romanian producers an edge when it comes to funding, aid, guarantees and support schemes.
"I know that in attendance there are hundreds of our producers, national, regional or local. I tell you as honestly as possible, I want to help with all my might, I am ready to go to all the counties of the country to support small and medium-sized companies from all fields, as I will use every opportunity to urge all Romanians to buy Romanian. I am firmly convinced that only through productivism and economic patriotism can we develop this country. At the same time, I am asking you to build an orderly country together, a country where the rules are followed by everyone; where those who pay their taxes honestly, month after month, should not feel humiliated by the so-called scammers who make huge fortunes overnight from tax evasion. It is unfair that the majority of Romanian companies have to struggle to strictly respect the 25th of each month, but at the same time the Romanian government is tolerating the mobs that drain the VAT and other taxes due to the national budget," said the prime minister.
He added that the Tax Office is the one that should reorganise and fight, in a real way, against evasion, while the digital transformation that has been talked about for years "should become reality."
