PM Ciolacu: We're trying to keep fuel price increase low

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said that fuel price increases "are not that high," as this is a process that has been seen worldwide, generated by the war, but will be kept "within a low level."

"I will have a discussion first to see why the price has gone up, I understand that the barrel has gone up again. It's very easy to influence, following the war. You know we have the second lowest price in Europe. It seems to me that Bulgaria has a price 0.1 lower than Romania. So it's a price increase that has been seen all over the world and all over Europe. We will try to keep it low. Also, we know that the increase in fuel prices brings about, all along the horizontal chain, some price increases, it is not such a high price increase to...," said Ciolacu, Monday, on the first day of the 2023/2024 school year, at the "Anghel Saligny" Technical College, which he visited with Bucharest District 3 Mayor Robert Negoita, agerpres reports.

Ciolacu explained that the Romanian state has the excise tax on fuels reported at the 2018 level.

"We have the excise duty blocked in relation to 2018. So the Romanian state, at the moment, takes the lowest excise tax in Europe, to keep inflation at a single digit, as we have managed. We have seen, diesel has become more expensive. This is normal, added Ciolacu. Usually, diesel is used in war as far as I know," said Ciolacu.
